Normally I’m a fan of a cloudy day. I’ll brew a cup of coffee, light a candle, and do some journaling. But DO NOT mess with my summer. Summer is meant for brutally hot sunshine and beach trips and blue skies. The last two weeks New Jersey has been plagued by gray skies. And not only gray skies but also sweaty humidity. Sun and humidity is a New Jersey summer but clouds and humidity is just torture. Anyone else suffering from lack of vitamin D lately?
The reason I am constantly checking to see if the sun is out is because I’m finally on summer vacation. This is the moment that teachers wait for all year. I love my students but when you work hard and play hard all year, you need a break. This morning I woke up late, brewed a cup of coffee, and got to breathe. Something I’m really looking forward to is creating things. During the school year, I’m all about the classroom crafts but the summer is a time for creating. Some of the things on my list are wall hangings for the house, easy-peasy DIY clothing, and lots of sketching.
But let’s talk about this gray and white summer outfit. I am OBSESSED with fancy sleeves like these. Though I may not wear bright colors or deck myself in sequins, I will stop traffic for funky sleeves. I scooped up this gray fancy sleeve top from Anthropologie because oh my goodness, aren’t they just beautiful?!? They take this from being a boring and simple top to that extra special something top. It’s effortless to wear because it goes with everything from these matchstick white jeans to a midi skirt. If you’re looking for the perfect “trend” to try this weekend, fancy sleeves are it. Speaking of trying things this weekend…
3 things for this weekend
Go shopping for your summer lipstick.
Having pretty lipstick is summer goals. Though it will get faded and smudged with ice cream and wine, a bright, vibrant lip is the statement for summer. Unlike the rest of your makeup, it will not melt in the summer heat. I love a bold lip and one of my favorite beauty bloggers, Kate of The Small Things blog, shares some rules for rocking that vibrant shade this summer.
Take a break from make-up.
Bold lipstick notwithstanding, it’s time to take a make-up break. This is something I try to do every summer. It’s good for your skin and it’s a good break from your routine, if you wear make-up everyday like I do. Even if you wear make-up because you love it, it can be really eye-opening and refreshing to have a fresh face. Sometimes I cheat and throw on a bit of mascara but it’s nice to give your face a breather.
Create a summer reading list.
The first thing I do when summer break begins is compile my summer reading list. Sadly I don’t get much reading done during the school year unless it’s for work. It’s time to scour the web and see what the best summer reads are. Jackie of York Avenue and Amber of Space on Third always share the best book reviews so that’s where I’ll check first. Bookworms, any suggestions?
