Right now I am deep in the throes of planning our London adventure. It’s coming up so fast; only two weeks away! It’s a bit crazy but I have to be honest, planning is one of my favorite parts. When I was younger, I loved watching my mother plan our vacations. She always purchased the latest Fodor’s guide and called up different places. Even though I still faithfully check the Fodor’s guide (checked out from the library), my approach to planning travels abroad is more modern. That means combing through Pinterest and blogs a-plenty.
However, using social media, blogs, and the whole wide internet when planning your international travels can quickly become overwhelming. There is just so much information out there! A lot of it is generic, tourist stuff that’s already well-known. But, if you’re my kind of traveler, you want to know the inside scoop.
Over the years I curated a list of different bloggers who share amazing tips and tricks for travelling abroad. Whether it’s solo travel, exotic locales, or quick stays in big cities, these are my favorite blogs to follow when you’re planning your international travels.
The Blonde Abroad
One of my favorite blogs for around-the-world travel is The Blonde Abroad. The blonde behind the blog, Kiersten, is a woman who left the world of finances behind to travel the world. Sounds amazing, right? She has traveled to over 50 countries and counting on almost every continent. She focuses on affordable travel, especially trips for solo female travelers. If you’re planning to a well-traveled place and want tips to make your trip go smoothly, you’re going to love The Blonde Abroad.
Living in Another Language
I’ve been following Amanda’s journey for years. She began her adventures out of the U.S. as a newlywed teaching English in South Korea. She has since traveled around New Zealand, moved to Alaska and then Texas, and now resides in Germany. Living in Another Language always makes you want to travel to the places she visits, with amazing photography and down-to-Earth commentary. She’ll also give you great tips if you’re interested in that expat life.
Happy to Wander
Instagram, for all its weird algorithm business, is still a great place to find amazing people. Christina from Happy to Wander is an amazing Instagrammer and blogger who chronicles her colorful and fun travels. She also shares tips for travel blogging. She always finds attractions off the beaten path as well as keeping travel affordable and easy. Bonus: Christina has downloadable resources for travel planning AND blogging.
O The Places We’ll Go
Another happy Instagram find is Sarah of O The Places We’ll Go. Of course, she shares the best of her international travels. But she also curates these awesome city guides and 24 hour posts around the globe. I love how she takes a bigger, foreign city and breaks down the best way to get around and explore all the nooks and crannies.
Another blogger with excellent photography skills, Lauren Wells and the blog by the same name share amazing, picture-perfect spots in all different countries. Honestly, her photos make me want to hop on the plane every other day
Find Us Lost
Find Us Lost is another blog that shares really pretty and pretty useful city guides. The bloggers behind Find Us Lost are Selena and Jacob, who are just an adorable couple with a case of serious wanderlust. And after reading their guides, you’re definitely come down with a case yourself! I also love the variety of city guides: everything from 24 hours to completely thorough guides. They cover everything from major cities like Paris and places on your bucket list like Romania.
On the Luce
When I began my research for London, I stumbled onto Lucy’s blog, On the Luce. A native to the UK, she has some of the best guides for England and I got plenty of recommendations for our upcoming trip. However, she doesn’t just stop there. There are guides to plenty of pretty cities across Europe and little hidden gems all over the world.
Again, I love planning trips. I love finding all those unique places hidden from tourists and bloggers are the best at sharing those with you. Planning your international travels are so much easier than the days of guide books and telephone calls. The thing I plan first, of course, is where we’re going to eat. I mean, all those famous places will always be there, right? You never know if they made enough donuts for everyone. Thankfully, I have blogs to show me where the food AND the monuments are.
